Cybersecurity and UPS systems have been on APC by Schneider Electric’s radar for several years.

Uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) are critical components in IT environments, but are increasingly vulnerable to cyberattacks, especially in hybrid settings combining edge computing, IoT, and multiple clouds.

To mitigate these risks, organizations must regularly update firmware, conduct security vulnerability assessments, and implement comprehensive security measures to protect these essential power systems.

The company continues to focus on this issue.

The U.S. federal government’s top cybersecurity agency, CISA, advises stakeholders to immediately ensure all UPS devices are not accessible from the internet without protection, applying compensating controls such as VPNs, multifactor authentication, and strong passwords if remote access is necessary.

CISA also recommends checking and updating default usernames and passwords, implementing login timeout features, and conducting regular security assessments to mitigate potential cyberattacks.

APC by Schneider Electric solutions can drill into that need and give solution providers a way to address their customers' very real needs and concerns.

Sarah Jane Hannon, offer management director at APC by Schneider Electric, explains how EcoStruxure IT’s Secure Network Management Card (NMC) System enhances IT infrastructure:

“By installing the NMC everywhere, it enables monitoring and management for UPS and PDU devices, improving cybersecurity and visibility into your infrastructure from wherever you are, anytime, with preventative management and security,” Hannon writes.

She adds: “We know and understand the needs of our customers. Our management options are focused on making operations easier for them and the Secure NMC System does exactly that by minimizing exposure to attack, reducing complexity and effort, and assisting with compliance so it becomes a consistent process.”

The Secure NMC Systems has been independently certified to the highest cybersecurity standard (IEC 62443-4-2).  Obtaining the IEC certification affirms our commitment to keeping mission critical IT safe and secure by making cybersecurity validation easy for our customers.
